Cary, NC, September 12, 2022 — The Atlantic Tire Championships began main draw play today at Cary Tennis Park with 13 matches completed.

Keegan Smith upset two-time defending ATC champion Mitchell Krueger 6-3; 7-6(2). Smith saved 83% of break points throughout the match and won 73% of first-serve points. He played on the UCLA men’s tennis team and was a 3 time All-American selection.

The fans stayed through a rain delay towards the end of the day to watch Govind Nanda defeat Rinky Hijikata (6-2; 6-3) in beautiful weather.

Smith and Nanda will move on to the round of 16 and will play later in the week.

The #2, #4, #7, and #8 seeds all advanced to the next round in straight sets. We hope to continue the tournament with high energy throughout the week!
