Cary, NC, August 8, 2023 – The Atlantic Tire Championships continued main draw singles play today with a packed schedule. 13 first-round matches were completed today, moving into the round of 16 on Wednesday.

One-seed Alexander Shevchenko was defeated by Seongchan Hong in a 2.5 hour battle ending at 3-6; 6-3; 7-6(4). Hong won 62% of his first serve points throughout the match and made 58% of his first serves. He is currently ranked 206 in singles and is from South Korea, while Shevchenko is from Russia and has a ranking of 93.

#2, #3, #4, #5, and #6 seeds all advance to the round of 16 while #7 and #8 were eliminated. Dostanic, Ellis, and B. Harris are the 3 qualifiers still in the tournament. The round of 16 players are set and matches will start at 2pm tomorrow as we begin doubles play in Cary.
