CARY, NC, September 14, 2017 – In his best career win, Kevin King defeated No. 1 seed, Ernesto Escobedo in the tournament’s evening feature match. King, a Georgia Tech alumni, played tough defense against the hard-hitting Escobedo. King capitalized on Escobedo’s second serve, winning 65% of those points. King will face Facundo Mena in the third round on Friday. Mena defeated the No. 8 seed Dennis Novikov in earlier Thursday action. The last time Mena and Novikov played was in the 2016 Qualifying rounds at Indian Wells, with Novikov taking the win. Mena’s strong serving today, winning over 77% of his first serve point, helped, him to win the match in just over an hours time.
Friday’s matches begin at 1:00pm on Stadium Court with the No. 5 seed Mitchell Krueger taking on recent Bogota Challenger Champion, Marcelo Arevalo. Also scheduled to play is Noah Rubin, who attended Wake Forest and played Roger Federer in the second round of the 2017 Australian Open. He will face the No. 9 seed, Christian Garin.
