CARY, NC, November 12, 2020 – The day was full of highly contested matches at the Atlantic Tire Championships. Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil extended his match winning streak to four matches (two Qualifying matches and two Main Draw) to reach the Quarterfinals. Bellucci repelled a fierce second set challenge from Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili but Bellucci ultimately held on to win, 6-3, 7-6(7).
In other matches, Denmark’s highest ranked player, Mikael Torpegaard, toppled the No. 1 seeded player in the tournament, Brazilian Thiago Monteiro, in a tough three-setter 4-6, 3-6, 4-6. Equally notable was India’s Prajnesh Gunneswaran win over American Jack Sock, 6-7(3), 6-2, 7-6(5). Lastly, American Brandon Nakashima was the only competitor that had control of his match from start to finish. Nakashima won against Canadian Alexis Galarneau, 6-3, 6-2. The Atlantic Tire Championships Quarterfinals are set. Three Americans remain: No. 2 seed Denis Kudla, Chris Eubanks, and Brandon Nakashima.
