Volunteer

Volunteers are the heart of the tournament, and we appreciate the hundreds of dedicated, tennis-loving volunteers!   

All Volunteers Receive  

  • Volunteers working one or more shifts will receive a 2017 official volunteer Atlantic Tire Championships dry fit t-shirt.
  • All volunteers working at least three shifts between September 9 - 17 will receive an additional official 2017 Atlantic Tire Championships polo shirt.
  • Volunteers will also receive free parking and meals during their shift.

Volunteer Requirements  

  • Start and end times of shifts can vary due to weather delays and changes in match schedule, etc. Personal flexibility is encouraged.
  • Volunteer registration will end on September 1, 2017.
  • All volunteers are expected to attend one Orientation Session. These sessions will be held at the Cary Tennis Park. Dates and times to be determined and posted on the website.
  • Volunteers are a vital part of our tournament. There are certain rules and procedures that must be followed. These items will be discussed at orientation.
  • Shifts will be scheduled in 3-1/2 hour slots (subject to change) 

Volunteer Committee Descriptions

Guest Services
Volunteers of Guest Services are the face of the tournament
  • Patrons will be directed to Guest Services for information about the day’s draw and events, maps and general venue information. This location will also serve as Lost and Found.
  • Candidates should enjoy helping the public, possess a good sense of direction and become familiar with the layout of the tournament venue. Time should be taken to review The Daily Draw and daily match recap prior to the start of each day.
  • Volunteers may be stationed at the tournament main ticket entrances to assist Security with checking bags, answering questions and directing patrons to courts and other locations.
  • Individuals who cannot tolerate summer temperatures and/or direct sunlight should not consider applying for this position
  • Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, stamping hands, tearing and validating tickets and maintaining orderly entrance activity.
  • Must be comfortable standing for extended periods of time in the heat.
  • Applicants for this role must be at least 18 years of age and possess excellent customer service skills as well as patience and the ability to deal with large groups of people.
Ballpersons
Ages 10-Adult
  • Ballpersons play a very important role in the overall operation of every match. Their primary job is to retrieve balls when they are out of play.
  • All Ballpersons must know how to keep score, move quickly, endure long matches in the sun and work well with others on a team.
  • Must be mature, have good hand-eye coordination, and possess good citizenship.
  • Must be 10 years old by September 10, 2017 (proof of age required) in order to participate.
  • All accepted Ballpersons must attend one Ballperson training session (TBD & posted on website).
  • Ballperson shirts will be distributed at the training sessions.
  • You are required to work at least one shift during qualifying weekend (September 9). There will be NO exceptions!
Court Ushers
  • Volunteers are responsible for checking tickets and directing patrons to their designated seats. This team works in the Stadium Court.
  • Ushers are also responsible for reporting any inappropriate behavior to Security and summoning medical personnel as needed.
  • Ushers must be at least 18 years of age and able to work in sun and heat. Must be able to stand for long periods of time if needed.
Hospitality
  • Volunteers are stationed at the Volunteer, Official, Player and Sponsor areas.
  • Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, ensuring only credentialed personnel enter appropriate areas.
  • Must be comfortable standing for extended periods of time in the heat.
  • Volunteers will be responsible for making sure sufficient food and drinks are available to the Volunteers, Officials, and players at all times during the tournament.
Match Support
  • Volunteers will be in direct contact with the players.
  • Volunteers will assist in preparing courts for matches.
  • Volunteers will ensure that the players are accommodated with all reasonable requests, including sufficient food, drinks, and transportation.
